Design for AI Workshop

AI Design for Enterprise Products is a workshop I’ve conducted at UX STRAT Europe & US that teaches on how to effectively implement AI in an enterprise product design.

Ben Lorica states that; “Many current AI solutions work hand in hand with consumers, human workers, and domain experts. These systems improve the productivity of users and in many cases enable them to perform tasks at incredible scale and accuracy. Proper UX/UI design not only streamlines those tasks but also goes a long way toward getting users to trust and use AI solutions”.

This workshop aspires to enhance the understanding of its attendees on the various UX considerations when designing UI for AI technology. Real life examples will be shared, and guiding principles will be discussed.

Learning Objective(s):

  • Introduce and clarify common Artificial Intelligent terms, using real world UI examples
  • Achieve deep understanding of UX principles to consider when designing UX for AI.
  • Participate in hands on exercise of designing UX for an AI feature
  • Discuss various requirements and technical restrictions that arise from

The workshop consisted of three themed sections with presentations and hands-on design exercises:

Introduction to AI UX

In this session we will clarify commonly used Artificial Intelligence related terms using real world UI examples. This presentation will get our participants’ creative juices flowing as we task them with their first design challenge.

Design Challenge 1: Brainstorming AI Idea

Start by picking a well-known product (for example a Word Processor) then work collaboratively to come up with an answer to the following question:

How might we improve our users’ efficiency, by using Artificial Intelligence based features?

UX Principles to Consider When Designing UX for AI

We will review UX principles applicable when designing for AI that will guide the designers during the design process. and navigate them towards a solution that benefits their end users the most

Design Challenge 2: Prototyping Phase

In the prototyping phase, teams will be tasked with designing a UX for their idea. Participants will apply the UX principles just reviewed and streamline their implementation. Finally, attendees will present a comprehensive solution to all teams.

Dealing with Real World Requirements

In this final part we will talk about various requirements and technical restrictions originating from organization stakeholders such as PM, Marketing, Development etc. all of which may conflict with our UX concept. We will discuss ways to resolve conflicts and use real examples taken from products that we designed.
